24.5 x 24.5 inch acrylic and mixed media (gold leaf and deconstructed greeting card) on burlap in auburn frame.

Waiting II is based on a reference photo I took in Gare d'Oest in Paris as I wait for my train to Orquevaux, France.  I arrived at the station early so I could get my bearings and people watch a bit before hopping aboard.  Once there, with a pastry in hand, I sat and watched the busy station flow chaotically, with everyone hurrying to and from.  I spotted this beauty chilling on her phone with her baby carriage in front and watched in awe.  Suddenly, I took a deep breath.  She felt like home.  I wanted to capture her chill, unbotheredness and did so during the residency on burlap I had purchased years prior and stuck in my suitcase at the last minute.

The texture of the linen matched the burlap grocery sacks we used at the chateau to carry supplies and odds and ends.  I was on my cycle most of the residency so I would tuck essential supplies in that sack secretly.  The piece reminds me of those sacks and the waiting woman with child.
