Golden BLK Candle Lounge

To truly tell this story, I have to go back to June 2024.  A week before my final day at the insurance company adjusting job that I called mine for the past eleven years, my Volkswagen Jetta clattered into the parking lot of Golden Blk Candle.  It had just begun making an embarrassingly loud noise. So much so, that as I pulled up to the Popeyes' drive thru window on my way to the candle class, I apologized to the check-out clerk as she handed me my food. I arrived and parked and prayed to God that my car would be ok.  This was not the time.  I had relied on my company car for nearly a dozen years, but within a week, Jazzy the Jetta would be my primary transportation.  The phantom noise quieted and I went inside, belly full of spicy cajun tenders.  I met my big sister friends there and enjoyed the beautiful space, the welcoming atmosphere and the abundance of luscious scents available to craft our master candles.  My final candle was named "Let Go and Let God," in honor of the big change that was coming and the faith required to make that move.  I noticed the art on the walls and mentioned it to my friends who were all boss women in their own industries.  They encouraged me to ask the owner about showing there.

February 2026, that show became reality.  Teacup to God is my baby, one I nurtured, coddled and grew after a pivotal seeding conversation with an incredible elder Matanah at an art show opening in April 2022.  I was able to visit her at her home, chat more, photograph her in her space to try and capture the beauty and mystery encased in her 90 plus year-old vessel and bring my own questions, explorations and answers to this exhibit.  The beautiful result is below.   Exhibit photos by Shauna Benoit.
