Forest Theater Mural
My first mural officially was for Forest Theater. I was tasked with creating works that showcased community and joy in a family reunion style. Over a week I painted in the midst of rain and cold. My dad was with me. My friend's brother came out and stood guard so I could focus on painting on the busy street corner. And my good friend also came out and kept me company. It's a project I was very proud of: diversity of images. 17 figures. Freehanded painted in hues of green and yellow in honor of the fertile ground of 75215.

Blues Alley Mural
Photos by Ciara Elle Bryant
The Forest Theater mural prepared me for my next project in both confidence and experience. I had help. Local artists who also worked on the wall but who were expert muralists gave me tips and showed me how to use the equipment: scissor lift, Boom lift, etc. Ms. Wanda King got permission from one of her favorite photographers to use this reference photo. I wanted to capture her beauty, her power and her rawness. Again, my Dad was with me. This time, in the sweltering Texas sun. I worked in the mornings on weekends started from Memorial Day and finished around July 4th. Grateful for my supervisor at the time who let me off as needed during the weekdays to work. And to the owner of the Brewery nearby who let us use his bathroom and helped as needed.
