Teacup to God is a visual representation of a conversation I had with an elder in 2022. Matanah told me to dare not hold up a teacup to God, because that is an insult to His greatness and capabilities and to ask boldly and big. I pondered those words for months from April to October. Then I began taking images of myself as reference holding up different sized vessels to see what they looked like and felt like. Four years later this piece is the result.
I am constantly reminding myself not to play small or timid and not to chicken out. Go big or go home. But there is also something truly beautiful and precious about small asks. I don't need the entire world. I need my health. I need my peace. I need provision. I need love. Are those teacup-sized?
