Shellter
Project type
portraits on seashells
Date
Sept 2025
Location
Dallas-made, on Worldwide Tours
I watched tiny snails on my parents' front porch find solace against the elements in their shells and marveled at how humanity echoes or matches that desire to find a safe space in turbulent and uncertain times. What those spaces look like vary based on the owner. Just like the snails, the sizes, shape and location of the shell is best left to the inhabitant. I wanted to explore this theory visually. Using shells leftover from a prior experiment, I selected different shapes and sizes and painted their safe or attempting to be safe human on the underside. Most of the series is travelling around the world as part of the DADA Tiny Art Show.
